A Restrained Retraet

PROJECT BRIEF:
A joint family of five members, a couple with their grownup kids and grandmother wanted a space that provided escapism and a sense of intimacy.

It is a homely celebration of earthen cool colour tones, a welcoming apartment with a spatial connection established through the deft use of scale, materiality and wabi-sabi way of living. The calming weightlessness is reinforced by the restrained material choices and the repeated soft textural gestures of fluted surfaces.

The focal element at entrance is the curve wall. It subtly conveys the design philosophy followed here. “To embrace the beauty of imperfections over perfection”. The interior looks away from being purely aesthetic but instead focuses on “a way of life that is about recognising, accepting, embracing the imperfectness” of it all. It opts for simplicity and authenticity as a conscious choice.
